1993 Cadillac Allante
In the car collector world, it’s common knowledge that firsts and lasts are the vehicles to own. A first edition is desired by some because they are the first, even with all the typical first production quirks. Last year vehicles are the most desirable because it is generally recognized that the factory finally sorts out all of the deficiencies, adds the best features, improves the engineering, creates the best handling, and ups the power, to finally get everything right. Then the model was unceremoniously pulled, leaving Cadillac and Allante fans disappointed and collectors left wanting…
Want no more, as this Last Year Allante, with only 22,530 miles will not disappoint. Seven model years earlier, Cadillac offered up the first Allante to help re-capture the Cadillac reputation as a premium luxury car builder. The debut and construction was significant and unique, blending luscious Italian design bodies built by Pininfarina, shipped via special Boeing 747 cargo planes to Detroit for assembly.
All Allantes are Front Wheel Drive, bringing something unique to the luxury sporty car world, and backed up by a torquey V-8 and automatic transmission, American-style. By 1993, the drive train was a dialed-in with a one-year only, upgraded 4.6L DOHC (dual overhead cam) V-8 providing 295 horsepower and 290 ft/lb of torque, with a new and improved 4T80-E automatic transmission. The 0-60 times dropped dramatically compared to earlier Allantes; it gets there in only 6.4 seconds. Top speed for the ’93 model increased to 140 mph, and the vehicle remained stable all the way…
A new suspension was engineered for the 1993 model, identified as “Road Sensing Suspension” for improved handling. Combined with a revised variable assist power steering rack, the ’93 Allante was the best handling of the production run.
With only 4,670 examples built in this year, there are not many in this condition. It still rides like a new Cadillac luxury sports car. The sleek black exterior finish is complemented by the custom billet horizontal grille. The 18-inch Antera wheels wrapped with 235/40/18ZR tires offer an aggressive, yet elegant posture to illustrate that this Allante means business.
Be the next to have the best of the last…
