Vehicle Overview

It's a HEMI! An authentic recreation/interpretation of an A-864 Savoy HEMI factory race car. A high quality mean machine that's ready for high performance cruisin' or high horspeower racin'!g

1964 Plymouth Savoy

A rare and desirable example of MoPar history when the 426 HEMI was introduced to reign supreme at the dragstrip and on the racetrack. This Plymouth is authentically reproduced as an A-864 Savoy race car when the factories were involved in the now legendary Super Stock wars, when “Win on Sunday and Sell on Monday” was the ultimate factory goal.

As Ford and General Motors continued with increasingly quicker and faster choices, Chrysler Corporation trumped them all by reviving their engineering expertise to create a set of Hemispherical chambered cylinder heads. The purpose-built HEMI heads atop their already powerful performance engines would now out-breathe any other stock engine, effectively making more horsepower and torque that allowed their lightest Plymouth and Dodge passenger car models stuffed with the new-for-’64 HEMI engines to dominate NASCAR and the Super Stock classes of NHRA and AHRA.

An exceptional Plymouth example that brings back the memories and dramatically evokes the HEMI legend that began in earnest in 1964, this Turquoise Terror is equipped with significantly increased power through an enlarged, enhanced HEMI engine.

510 cubic inch HEMI with magnesium cross-ram manifold, transistorized ignition, MSD distributor, w/AL6 box, dual Holley carburetors on Chrysler aluminum heads, 10.25:1 compression ratio (runs on 91 octane). . Engine built by Bob Mazzolini Racing.

635 Horsepower, 600 ft/lbs Torque

Tested in two runs at Carlsbad Raceway: 11.70 second ET @123 MPH through the mufflers on Goodyears, in “drive-in” street tune.

727 TorqueFlite transmission, fully automatic. Controlled by factory push buttons.

Dana 60 differential equipped with 3.55 Sure-Grip

Accurate A-864 reproduction with the factory-correct radio, heater, sun visor, arm rest, and coat hook deletes

Front seats are lightweight Dodge A100 buckets mounted on factory-engineered, special lightweight brackets

Factory Super Stock racing HEMI hood scoop

Huge battery located in trunk for weight transfer

An A-864 recreation built starting with a 64,000 mile two-owner six-cylinder Plymouth two-door sedan. Bodywork was all metal-finished, absolutely no bondo used.

All stainless steel trim was re-polished; grille and headlight buckets were redone with Anobrite process.

Rear wheelwells were mini-tubbed; rear leaf springs were re-located inboard for wide tire/rim clearance.

The exterior is painted in Dark Turquoise, factory-correct paint code LL-1.

A stunning and rare paint color, the darker color tone stunningly shows off the no-excuses, straight body panels.

The interior is upholstered in matching Turquoise vinyl, factory-correct in color, pattern, and material.  While A-864 Factory Lightweights were delivered with a back-seat delete, the builder retained a back seat for the ability to share HEMI experience with passengers…

While shown few times and a true under-the –radar seldom seen vehicle, this Savoy previously won an award at the MoPar Show in Woodley Park.

The Savoy model was the lightest of the available Plymouth bodies in 1964. The two-door sedan style was selected by the factory as the racing representative because of the structural integrity it offered, necessary to handle the brute torque of the HEMI engines.

This low-mileage Savoy, meticulously prepared and detailed, was created by a well known builder. The skills of the shop are currently being applied to complete a new project that will be entered in the next America’s Most Beautiful Roadster competition.

In addition to being a powerful high performance HEMI, this Savoy is in show-ready condition: immaculately clean, in and out, underneath and under hood.
